ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the effect of twitter ban on mobile data usage in Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State. Specifically, the study examined what was responsible for twitter ban in Nigeria, the effect of twitter ban on mobile data usage in Nigeria, how mobile data usage has increased or decreased with the ban of twitter, and ways mobile data usage can be increased in Nigeria in Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 95 responses were received and validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the supposed deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari tweet led to why twitter was banned. Also the perceived misinformation been passed around on twitter led to why twitter was banned. Furthermore the study revealed that threat to the unity of Nigeria as a country led to why twitter was banned. The study therefore recommended that the federal government of Nigeria should endeavour to go back to their drawing board and make necessary amendment on the ban on Twitter usage in Nigeria since this ban has a huge negative effect on telecommunication companies since a restriction was placed on access to twitter platform by the federal government of Nigeria which has reduced the volume of data users.
